In the city of Otopeni, pre-insulated polybutylene pipes have been used in the public district heating network for the last 12 years.
In 2025, the operator of the district heating service of the City of Otopeni - Veolia Romania Integrated Solutions (VRSI) - started using pre-insulated PEXa pipes.
For the first project, the pre-insulated PEXa pipe was used, the Kevlar-reinforced PEXa - FibreFlex version, with a diameter of 160 mm, the only pre-insulated PEXa pipe solution at this diameter with coil delivery.

The installation of the pipe to the coil through the existing thermal channel eliminated the need to uncover and subsequently restore the thermal channel, and also eliminated the construction site impact on the inhabitants of the area, thus no longer being necessary to decommission the parking lots and access roads between the blocks during the works, estimated at 2-3 weeks.

The execution time was also reduced, the installation of the pipe being effectively done in 2 days.
